Originally named Partridge, the Berkshire town of Hinsdale, MA in Western Massachusetts was first settled in 1763 and was incorporated in 1771. Its name was changed in 1804 when the town split. The name was then changed to Hinsdale after the family of Rev. Theodore Hinsdale, who owned an important woolen mill in town. The mill was the center of economic activity until it closed during the Great Depression. Hinsdale, MA is also where you can visit Ashmere Lake and hike part of the Appalachian Trail that crosses Tully Mountain.
